Mediation
HARRELL LAW OFFICE

Mediation is a process in which parties meet with a neutral, third-party person who helps them to come to as mutually satisfactory agreement on issues regarding custody issues, visitation schedules, child support, and more. Mediation occurs outside of the courtroom and is an attempt to give your case as much personal attention as possible. In Jefferson County, Kentucky it is estimated that each family court judge has 2,000 family law cases brought before them each year. Because of this, the judges know that they simply do not have the resources available to devote as much time to each family’s case as is necessary to address all of their needs. Because of this, many cases are referred to mediation to try to address as many issues as possible before going to trial, which is often a source of emotional stress and personal expense to all parties involved.

Our office will work with you and your attorneys to find an agreeable time to schedule mediation in your case, including offering some later afternoons and Saturdays, in order to best accommodate work schedules. (Please keep in mind that your attorney may charge you an extra premium for mediations held outside normal business hours.) Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our office is currently offering all mediation sessions via Zoom e-meeting. Our office will continue to offer mediations via Zoom in the future in order to help accommodate schedules and traveling restrictions for all parties involved.

Chris has more than twenty years of experience in family law, including having served as a children’s attorney in child abuse, dependency, and neglect court. Because of this, he has a unique insight into the needs of children and experiences at helping families to come to creative solutions to co-parenting issues. The goal of mediation will be to come to a written agreement between the parties to reflect a mutually beneficial solution to the unique issues facing your family.
